Halfway. Five fresh problems that test the very same six blockers as Week 1. Run it exactly like the diagnostic, no help, recorded, then lay the two sheets side by side and see what has moved.
Full descriptions are on the diagnostic page. In short:
Parallel to Week 1. All solved and checked.
Ava is doing a reading challenge that needs 60 stars. She already has 12 stars, and she earns 4 stars for every book she finishes. She joined the library on Monday. How many more books does she need to finish to reach 60 stars?
Watch for: Does she drop "joined on Monday", and use the 12 she already has rather than 60 รท 4? Twin of Week 1 Q1.
Has 12, needs 60, 4 per book. To go: 60 โ 12 = 48. Books: 48 รท 4 = 12. 12 books. Check: 12 + 4ร12 = 60. Monday is the red herring.
A phone battery is at 80%. It drops 6% for every hour Kelcy games on it. After how many hours of gaming will it be at 20%?
Watch for: Same falling-rate shape as Q1 and as Week 1's candle. Does she recognise it, or treat % as something exotic? Twin of Week 1 Q2.
Start 80, target 20, dropping 6 per hour. To lose: 80 โ 20 = 60. Hours: 60 รท 6 = 10. 10 hours. Check: 80 โ 6ร10 = 20.
At a bakery, one large loaf costs the same as two small rolls. Sam buys three large loaves and four small rolls for $40 in total. How much does one small roll cost?
Watch for: Does she swap everything into "small rolls", or build a table, rather than flailing? Twin of Week 1 Q3.
One large = two small. Three large = six small. Total: 6 + 4 = 10 small = $40, so one small = 40 รท 10 = $4. Small roll $4 (large $8). Check: 3ร8 + 4ร4 = 24 + 16 = 40.
A game console costs $120. It is reduced by 30% in a sale. A voucher then takes another $10 off. How much is paid in the end?
Watch for: Both steps, in order, the $10 as a flat amount not a percent. Does she stop at $84? Twin of Week 1 Q4.
30% of 120 = 36, sale price 120 โ 36 = 84. Then voucher: 84 โ 10 = 74. $74. Common slip: stopping at $84.
The perimeter of a rectangle is 48 cm. The length is three times the width. Find the length and the width.
Watch for: Setup length = 3 ร width and solving 4 ร width = 24. A snap here is the algebra, not the reading. Twin of Week 1 Q5.
2 ร (length + width) = 48, so length + width = 24. Length = 3 ร width, so 3w + w = 24, 4w = 24, w = 6. Width 6 cm, length 18 cm. Check: 2 ร (18 + 6) = 48, and 18 is three times 6.
Lay the two observation sheets side by side, blocker by blocker. You are not comparing scores, you are comparing where she stalls. Ask:
Same as Week 1, with an extra column for movement since then: โ better, โ same, โ slipped.
